When my wife and I landscaped the back yard we bought a new hot tub, about two years ago. On our old hot tub we used bromide tablets and baking soda to clean the hot tub. It smelled and I could never keep the water clear looking. With our new hot tup we use silk balance and the water smells good, is soft on the skin, and the water is always crystal clear.
